When Protestants stood against the unbiblical practices of Rome nearly 500 years ago, they did not intend to start thousands of varieties or flavors of Christianity. They were trying to "Reform" the Catholic Church to Biblical truth; Reformed Baptists today are trying to Reform Modern Christianity back to the teachings of the Early Church and to retain the beautiful, Biblical teachings of the Reformers.
Many believers today resonate with these convictions, because they have seen churches with shallow roots that are tossed and turned by the social and religious winds that are thrown at them. Their Churches rarely talk about the Christian heritage we have of brilliant theologians, legendary martyrs, and deep sacred truths. Believers can tell when their church lacks an anchor and often times, they end up here... opening the old scrolls, diving into the passionate and vibrant history that preceded them.
But many "regular" Baptists profess these values as well, so what are the actual differences? In reality, the primary shared distinctives across all "Baptists" are believers baptism and congregational church leadership, from there, we can actually have quite a bit of variation. Lets talk about it!
